Garage With Dormers Plans

Garage plans can have dormers which bring light, space and view to the upper story and add interest to the roof form. Behm Design offers an excellent  selection of garages with dormers, including gable dormers and shed roof dormers. Dormers are usually used on traditional, colonial and craftsman style garage plans....
.

Gable Dormers can be functional or decorative. If the garage plan features attic space or usable space within the roof, dormers can add light, ventilation and view. Gable dormers are most often built into one or two rafter or truss spacings and are usually between 2 ft. and 6 ft. wide. With opening windows, such as single-hung, double-hung or casement type, ventilation and egress requirements of the building codes can be satisfied, allowing residential use (as long as certain other requirements are met) These dormers have a small gable style roof.

Shed roof dormers on a few Behm Design garage plans have the single roof plane sloping upwards, away from the front. They can intersect a roof plan of greater slope, slope up to a main ridge or make an extension of an upper roof plane in a gambrel design. Due to their roof spans front to back dormer widths can be narrow or quite wide, creating usable height space inside. They can appear quite massive and the scale should be considered as relative to the garage size and shape.
