Colonial Style Garage Plans

The 18th Century Colonial era housing was based on locally available  raw materials, early manufacturing and carpentry. High quality materials and small primitive glass panes were imported from Europe (which is why the earliest windows had muntons separating the small panes - it was the only way to have a larger window with openable sash - needed for both natural light and healthful ventilation air.) The Colonial structures were usually.....

built of post and beam with infill, brick masonry with timber or stacked timber. The dimensions, scale and form were the honest expression of the industry of the time. Ornaments brought in from Europe became popular applications for wealthy home owners.

Smaller buildings often  were built on site as "dependencies". These were kitchens, living quarters for servants, small barns, carriage house, etc. Because the scale of these buildings are similar to modern day garage buildings they were a great resource for design in Behm Design's Colonial garage plans.

Colonial Garage Plans by Behm Design present details, forms and proportions based on real 18th century structures of Williamsburg and other historically preserved examples. Although these garage plans appear true to form and style they are designed with contemporary, code compliant, conventional construction. Exterior siding, trim, windows and doors may be built with authentic materials or modern equivalents such and cement-fiber, vinyl, etc. as preferred.
